Yeah I cannot afford to lose my job. Sorry folks.

  3. WithASackOfAlmonds

Yeah sorry I’ve got kids to feed. Can’t afford to strike and potentially lose my job

  4. secretsesameseed

r/workreform already tried. Good luck getting linecooks with families and/or debt to lose a shift.

  5. TheCosmicProfessor

I already lost two days of work this week cause of all the snow here in Illinois. Can’t afford 3 days of no pay.

  6. KevinStoley

Friday is already my day off

Using work as a form of protest just isn’t gonna fly. In this economy, when it’s taking people upwards of a year to find consistent employment, no one is going to risk that.

  8. Metallurgeist

This type of shit never works. It just is a social media meme for a week or two and then when the dust settles nothing changes.

  9. ANotSoFreshFeeling

A one day strike will accomplish nothing.

  10. Lain_ily

i would love to participate but i cook at a rehab, cant exactly send all my clients home for a day.

  11. thaistik4all

Unfortunately, my landlord and the utility company are not participating, so there’s that.

  12. JustAnEmployeeHere

I mean out here in the MidAtlantic US, we are expecting another foot of snow on Friday.

  13. DezTheOtter

You realize we can’t afford that right?

  14. Expensive-View-8586

Stop hurting small businesses like restaurants. How does this further your cause?

  15. Browncoat_Loyalist

That would be great, who’s paying me for attending and missing work? Who’s covering my shift so I not fired by the assholes I work for? Fucking tone deaf.

  16. sneakerfreek

This is not well planned enough to work. The general strike is not even to a million signers yet and this has been hastily put together. The right-wing media will get ahold of any footage they can and use it as much as they can, turn it into a massive failure and a talking point which will discourage people from taking part in future strikes.

This needs to happen, but with better planning, better messaging, and more lead time.

how does hurting local businesses stop funding ICE?

  18. red_rhyolite

How does me using 8 hrs of PTO stop ICE funding

  19. GamingSeerReddit

I already RQO’d that day to play punk music and party so uh cool I guess? The thing about general strikes is that they sound great but labor actions are best done within single workplaces, then sectors, then general. You can’t invent a general strike out of thin air without contacting multiple unions to coordinate that labor action

  20. This won’t work and is just as lackluster as the “don’t buy gas on X day”. A national strike needs to be more than one day. You think the French and Iranians are out here taking 24 hours off?

  21. ogzkittlez

Poor timing considering a lot of hourly cooks already lost days this week due to the weather

  22. soupseasonbestseason

maybe if you own the business or run the kitchen, cut your employees and break and shut down. this should be directed at the businesses. shut down your kitchen in solidarity with us latinos.

asking wage slaves to strike in the middle of winter in the u.s. is hard. someone has to pay our fucking bills.

  23. motionbutton

Dudes, we did this in MN and it took over a week to sort of organize. You can’t just do 3 days.

  24. Consistent-Winter-67

Hate these same day or same week posts. If you want a proper boycott or protest it needs prep and time. Not everyone can drop everything at the moments notice. Most Americans are struggling to even pay their bills.

  25. CongregationOfFoxes

yuppies toss these out every time they have PTO or sick days to burn. iv gone from paycheck to paycheck to shift to shift. I’m glad people are waking up and I hope this brings change but a lot of people still don’t realize how dire poverty is becoming for us in food service

  26. Element720

Is this a joke most of us here can’t afford to miss a single day especially with the current prices of everything and most of us are essential workers. Me and my team are responsible for feeding around 150 residents are we just supposed to let them starve all day while we protest?

  27. RedditCensorss

Nah fam I gots to keep my insurance

  28. Buford_Burger

If I don’t go to work I get fired so…

  29. Virtual-Product2298

To echo the sentiment of many, I’m not losing my job and probably become homeless in winter of all times for a social movement.

The people who can participate in this are the people that can afford it. Kitchen workers are not those people

  30. Pepe_the_clown123

Idk how delusional you are thinking people can to stop working to protest or something. Especially in a industry where most people get payed hourly. And call me a nazi or whatever but what is a one day strike even going to acomplish? Wasnt the whole point of a strike stopping an action until you get what you want? In an ideal world we would all hold hands and go on a strike, but people have bills to pay, mouths to feed, debts to pay. If you seriously expect people to stop working you are seriously foolish. If you seriously wanna protest just go protest.

  31. BotGirlFall

I fucking hate ICE but Im a single mom with NO child support. Ive already missed two days this week because my kids school was closed. If I get fired for walking out whos going to pay my bills?
